The Inmate by Freida McFadden

Krysten’s Review
This was my first Freida McFadden book, and given how much I’ve seen people on TT and IG rave about her, I think this was the wrong one to start with.
The Inmate starts off pretty strong. Parts of it read like YA, but it was still compelling enough for me to keep reading. I enjoyed the dual timeline. I was invested in finding out who the killer was.
Then at about 60% it just got stupid. The characters got stupid, the dialogue got stupid, the plot got stupid, the writing got stupid (“The gun clatters to the snow”? “Frozen icicles”? REALLY?). The climax was a villain’s monologue followed by series of accidents that worked out in the protagonist’s favor; she didn’t actually have to DO anything.
Then the epilogue flipped everything on its head.
I really don’t know what to think.
I’m going to try another Freida, but…. not for awhile. I need a palate cleanser.
