Published: April 4, 2023
When an autistic girl goes missing, search and rescue expert Beckett Stolle ventures into the swamplands of Texas to track her down. When he finds the girl, she is alive, sitting next to a corpse painted in blood. Beckett fears this is the work of a notorious serial killer. But every clue leads back to Aria, who has secrets of her own—something her psychiatrist, Jo Bellerose, sympathizes with on a very deep and dangerous level.

Krysten’s Review

Are we born crazy or does life, after years and years, deliver one final blow that sends us into psychosis?

I loved Buried Deception, so I was excited to get an ARC of the second book in the series. It is well-written, fast paced, and easy to read. (And that cover… chef’s kiss!) The psychology aspect added an interesting layer, and I thought the inkblots and art therapy were really interesting, especially how they tied into the plot.

My main beef with this story was that it was rushed. It didn’t feel like there was much of an investigation into the murders before they figured it out (and I figured it out as well, before the reveal), and the romances felt a bit forced. The book is a bit short, so I think the author could have spent more time fleshing out the plot, characters, and relationships without making it too long.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and am leaving this review voluntarily.
