The Dogs of Christmas by W. Bruce Cameron

Krysten’s Review
This wasn’t a bad book, but it was lackluster in comparison to Cameron’s first two books. Instead of being written from the dog’s perspective, it’s written from a human perspective. You’d think that since Cameron is a human and not a dog, this would make for an even stronger narrative, but disappointingly, it does not. That point of view was, as it turns out, the best thing he had going for him. Without it, the writing and storyline are just mediocre. The characters (at least, the human ones) are flat and I really didn’t feel a connection to any of them, and I found most of the relationships to be rather weak. The plot is somewhat boring — hardly any action at all, very little “show, not tell.” The storyline wasn’t cookie-cutter like many can be (though it was somewhat cliche) and I was pleased with the ending, but all in all, there wasn’t anything that made me invest in the book or its characters.
