October TBR: What’s in my latest book haul

TL;DR: I like books, so I went to a real-life bookstore and bought some. You can read them along with me if you want. Links below!

I have always loved going to bookstores and browsing the shelves. E-books are a wonderful invention that makes reading super convenient, but there is something about a physical book that can never be replaced. The smell of the freshly printed pages, the texture of the cover, the feel of the smooth pages against your fingertips… It’s the whole experience!

And last weekend, the mothership called me home.

I am perfectly happy browsing a bookstore for an hour or more, though it’s more dangerous than a stalker lurking in the bushes. Well, maybe not quite that dangerous, but it’s definitely scary for my budget.

Anyway. Here’s my latest book haul! Now I just have to figure out how to clone myself so I have time to read…

Woman on the Edge :: Samantha Bailey

A total stranger on the subway platform whispers, “Take my baby.”
She places her child in your arms. She says your name.
Then she jumps…

I heard about this book on a podcast interview with the author, and as soon as I heard the premise, I added it to my to-be-read list on Goodreads. And that cover! I’m a sucker for beautiful covers. Just take my money already.

The Family Tree:: Steph Mullin & Nicole Mabry

The DNA results are back. And there’s a serial killer in her family tree…

Okay, was this book written for me? As someone whose familial history is a bit of a mystery, I’ve always found DNA and genetics to be fascinating and somewhat nebulous. And I think y’all know by now that I have a slight obsession with serial killers. Plus, yeah, that cover is *chef’s kiss* beautiful!

Out of Love :: Hazel Hayes

Out of Love begins at the end. A couple call it quits after nearly five years, and while holding a box of her ex-boyfriend’s belongings, the young woman wonders: How could they have spent so long together? When did they fall out of love? Were there good times before the bad?

Admittedly, this one is an unusual pick for me, but as a member of the human race, I think we can all relate to that end-of-relationship feeling of wondering what went wrong. We have a tendency to obsess and pick things apart to figure out the why behind an event that otherwise doesn’t make sense. The fact that it’s told in reverse sealed the deal.

The Ice Twins :: S.K. Tremayne

One of Sarah’s daughters died. But does she know which one?

Twins have always been fascinating to me. Not in the threesome way (perv!), but in a diabolical way. Like, everything about them is the same (with the exception of fingerprints), so if they’re involved in a crime, how do you know whodunit? Especially when they start talking in their own secret twin language. Enter The Ice Twins. With a cover reminiscent of one of the most iconic fictional moments, this one promises a big ol’ creepfest.
